High School Children's Play

Last spring Jesse was chosen to direct this years Children’s Play at the high school. This is the only show that a student gets to totally direct. He has been a student director for shows in past years, but for this show, being the director means basically doing the show themselves. Mr. Jacobs acts in a supervisory position, but the director will do the following…
Choose the show
Choose and assistant director
Make all casting decisions (with the input of the asst director)
Design the set
Choose the crew
Oversee all the little things, publicity, program, etc….

Now, even though I was REALLY proud that Jesse was chosen for this job, this is what REALLY got me…

Guess who he chose for his assistant director?

His sister.

Sometimes you can know too much...

Yesterday while Jesse and I were working in the yard, Rufio cut his tongue on a piece of glass. Blood covered his mouth and matted his hair, but it was not too bad.

Jesse was really concerned. I said. "You know Jesse, dogs get cuts all the time and heal just fine."

He replied, concern on his face, "Dad, the Eskimos put seal meat on a sharp knife blade and leave it out for polar bears. When the bear eats the meat, it cuts off his tongue, and ten hours later the bear bleeds to death."

Like I always say, too much knowledge will not allow you to sleep at night!

Update: Rufio is still alive.

Bend It Like Beckham!

Yes, that's the world-famous David Beckham doing a free kick in the Chicago Fire v. LA Galaxy Soccer Match. Jim and I went up on a bus with the Strikers to see the game.

We saw some great soccer, and Beckham really is an amazing player.

The Vetters Kids

Jim and Payton Riding in The Riley Day Parade

Jimmy is the groom in an upcoming play (November 9, 10 and 11). If that's not a groom's expression I'll eat my hat. The kid's a natural!

He rode with lovely Payton on the back of a red convertible through the Riley Parade. Cans were tied to the back of the car and everything. It is a cute show, and Jim has had excellent reviews from the director, Chris Schaffer.

I missed the parade due to the Fookarwie tournament this year, so I joined Chris, Jim and Maddie at church Sunday morning. As I slid into the seat a few minutes late, Jim's first words to me were "Dad, Alabama won last night!"

Is this boy my kid or what?!

Mizuki's Big Adventure!

Mizuki came to stay with us this week, and we had a wonderful experience with him. Colts game, Air Show, Bowling, Pistol Shooting and just hanging out with the Vetters Kids filled his days.

Mizuki hails from Kakuda City Japan, and is the first person in his family to come to the US. His parents own a pharmacy in Kakuda.

We certainly hope to see Mizuki again someday. He is a special young man and is now our Japanese son!

NC Beach Trip

We had a great trip to the beach with all the Cota Clan in July. I love this shot of a typical day watching the waves roll in and soaking up the rays. It was nice to have all the Cota kids together! Thanks Mom and Dad C. for putting this all together!

Rufio Joins the Vetters Family

Meet Rufio, our new Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier. He's 11 weeks old and and just a ball of fur. Very sweet dog! Dixie and he are playing well, and the kids love their Easter present!

Chris and I went to get mice for the snakes and came home with a new puppy! Always an adventure at the Vetters!

Welcome Rufio! Bring us joy!

Paris in the Spring!

Pop and Gran and Maddie and I stood on top of the Eifel Tower and looked out over the city of Paris. The fog softened the edges. Beautiful. We saw Notre Dame, the Louvre, and Napolean's tomb, then came back to the Eifel Tower and saw it sparkle in the moonlight.

Mont Saint-Michel

I can't begin to express what a fantastic place this was. Pop said it best, "Walt Disney couldn't have come up with anything like this!" It truly belongs in a story book.

Fog rolled in from the English Channel and obscured everything but the castle. It loomed out of the mist. As we entered the gates, though, we found a lively world of tiny shoppes that lined the road heading up to the abby. We went into the chapel of St. Michael, ate dinner in a cozy restaraunt, and explored the walled city. If you ever get to France...

Maddie with Gran and Pop at Le Havre Harbor

We arrived from Belgium Tuesday evening from Belgium and stopped for a beach-side dinner at Le Havre overlooking the English Channel. Wonderful weather and great French omelettes!

Gran's Studio in Belgium

Maddie spent the day with Gran in her studio at school while Pop and I went to the Waterloo battlefield. Maddie painted a really neat picture and Gran finished her landscape.

Amsterdam with Gran and Pop

Amsterdam was awesome. We went to the Anne Frank House and toured the city on the canal boats. Lovely old city and very nice people.

Kurt and Maddie in Europe

These are castles on the Rhine in Germany that we saw on the first day. Do we look like we flew all night?

Great week with Ayaka

We all bonded with Ayaka this week, and it was sad to see her fly back to Japan. Jesse will be over in June, though, and maybe Maddie and Jim too someday. Hello to the Ngai Family when you see this post!

Ayaka, our Japanese daughter

Ayaka arrived at our house yesterday from Kakuda Japan. She is very pleasant and is fitting in with our family well. She brought us wonderfully fun gifts. We all tried our hand at oragami, and Jimmy built an antelope.

Mercury Rocks the Rick

Jesse's band Mercury played the first rock concert at Greenfield's new Ricks Theater. Steve Boller opened with a great set, and then Mercury rocked their legion of dedicated fans. Longest set of their career and high octane all the way through.
